Rows of small labeled containers of colorful diamond painting drills beside a printed checklist

DMC color chart for diamond painting, with a printable drill checklist

Look up any DMC code by number or color family, then print the one-page checklist and keep track of the spare drills you own, the ones running low and the ones you need.

Diamond painting kits number their drills with DMC's embroidery floss codes, so a chart of DMC codes is the master list for every spare drill you own. Below is the full list as DMC publishes it (508 colors, searchable by number or color family) and a one-page printable checklist of the 490 solid colors for tracking your stash. The printable lists codes only, with no printed swatches, because a home printer can't reproduce the colors.

How to use the checklist

Print the sheet and go through your stash one container at a time. Mark each code with the key: an empty box for a code you have plenty of, a half-filled box for one running low and a filled box for one you need. The small second box takes a rough quantity: a number of drills, a fraction of a bag, or just "½".

Keep the sheet with your storage and check it in two situations. Before you order replacement drills, look for the code you're missing. It's often already in a container from an older kit. And before you start a kit with a short bag, check whether you have enough of that code to cover it. When the sheet gets messy, print a new one.

Drills being poured from a kit bag into a storage container
Leftover drills only help if you can find them. One container per code, labeled with the number, is the simplest system.

Our guide to leftover drills covers what to make with a big stash, and the missing drills guide walks through claiming a short bag from the seller. If you log each kit on our project log printable, write any missing codes there too.

Why your kit's "310" may not match another kit's

DMC makes thread, not drills. Drill makers borrow DMC's floss numbering because it's the system every chart already uses, then mix their own resin to match each floss color. Two brands' "DMC 666" drills are both meant to be the same red, but a different resin or batch can shift the shade, and so can the cut of the facets.

Two piles of red drills with slightly different shades side by side
Same code, different maker: small shade differences are normal. They show most in large flat areas.

In practice that matters in two places. A small patch of substitute drills inside a big area of one color can show up as a faint blotch, so for sky or background colors try to use drills from the same kit. For details and small highlights, a drill with the right code from another maker is almost always fine. If a kit uses its own numbering (some custom and specialty kits do), match by eye against that kit's chart, not this list.

Every code DMC lists for its six-strand embroidery floss on dmc.com, checked October 3, 2026. Use the box to search by code or name, or filter by family. The swatches are approximate and only for orientation on screen. Screens vary, and nothing here replaces the drills in your hand.

Names are as DMC's US site lists them. DMC's English pages put the word "Metallic" in front of 22 ordinary cotton colors (310 and 321 among them). DMC describes this floss as 100% cotton and its French pages leave the word out, so we've dropped it. A few codes have no name on dmc.com, and three codes (57, 67, 776) appear on DMC's UK site but not the US one. "Variegated" marks DMC's ombre threads, which shade from light to dark along one strand.

The printable drill inventory checklist

Only the sheet prints. It fits one US Letter page at small type (codes at about 8 pt), so print at 100% scale; on A4, choose "Fit to page". It lists the 490 solid colors and leaves out DMC's 18 variegated codes (48, 51, 52, 53, 67, 69, 90, 92, 93, 94, 99, 105, 106, 107, 111, 115, 121, 125), since a drill is one solid color. If your kit uses one, write it in the "codes I need" box.

Storing the drills the checklist tracks

A drawer organizer of drill containers sorted from light to dark
Sorting containers in code order makes the checklist and the stash line up, so a quick look tells you what you have.

A checklist is only as good as the storage behind it. Containers labeled with the DMC number, kept in code order, let you go down the sheet and the stash together. Our diamond painting storage guide compares grid boxes and screw-top jar sets by how many codes they hold, and trays with lids are handy for the codes you're using right now. To see how many drills a new canvas needs before you dip into the stash, use the diamond painting calculator.

Questions people ask

Do diamond painting drills use DMC color codes?
Most kits label their drill bags with numbers taken from DMC's embroidery floss chart, so code 310 is black and 666 is a bright red. The drills aren't made by DMC, though, and each maker matches the floss colors in its own resin, so the same code can look slightly different between brands.
How many DMC colors are there for diamond painting?
DMC listed 508 colors for its six-strand floss on dmc.com when we checked, including 18 variegated ombre threads. Full replacement drill sets on Amazon are often sold as 447-color sets, so a drill set covers most of the chart but not every newer code.
Is there a free printable DMC color chart for diamond painting?
Yes, this page has one. It lists the 490 solid-color codes in number order with a checkbox and a quantity box for each, and it fits on one US Letter page. Print it or save it as a PDF from the print dialog.
Why doesn't the printable show colors?
Home printers can't reproduce DMC's colors accurately, and a printed swatch that looks wrong can lead you to order the wrong drills. Use the code to match, then compare the actual drills with your kit's chart. The screen swatches in the table above are approximate for the same reason.
What does DMC B5200 mean in diamond painting?
B5200 is DMC's brightest white, and kits use it for the whitest highlights. It's separate from White (Blanc) and Ecru, which is an off-white, so check which of the three your chart calls for before you substitute one for another.
How do I keep track of my spare diamond painting drills?
Store each code in its own labeled container, then tick the code on the printable checklist and note roughly how much you have. Mark codes that are running low. Before you order replacements or start a kit with a missing color, check the sheet first: the code may already be in your stash.
