Diamond Dotz is a reliable mid-range brand with two habits you should know about before you buy. Most of its kits are partial drill (the background stays printed instead of covered), and most use round drills. If you want a sparkling surface edge to edge, filter for full drill. If you want a shorter project with a painted look around the subject, Dotz is one of the few brands that does partial drill on purpose and does it well. We have no relationship with the brand.
How we checked Diamond Dotz
On October 13, 2026 we read the Diamond Dotz FAQ and Missing Dotz page, and counted the filters on its canvas kit and Masterclass collections. We pulled the Diamond Dotz items on Amazon with our listing tool to confirm what's actually sold there. For build quality we lean on two hobby bloggers who bought kits and wrote them up, and we name them where we use them.
This is a "How we pick" review. We didn't buy or paint a Diamond Dotz kit for this page. How we research.
Diamond Dotz vs "diamond dots"
More people search "diamond dots" than "Diamond Dotz", and they don't always mean the brand. "Diamond dots" is a common name for the hobby, the same way people say "diamond art" or "diamond painting". Diamond Dotz (with a z) is a brand; the site footer says "© 2026 Needleart World". A blogger who covered the 2017 Creativation trade show wrote that Needleart World debuted Diamond Dotz there. So a "diamond dots kit" on Amazon is usually a generic kit, and a "Diamond Dotz" kit has the brand name on the box.
The Diamond Dotz line-up, sorted by who it's for
The menu is crowded. This is how the lines on the brand's site break down:
| Line | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Canvas Kits | The main range: 420 kits on Oct 13, 2026, labeled Starter to Advanced | Most adults |
| Masterclass | 13 large, all "Advanced", round drills only, many after famous paintings (Klimt, Da Vinci) | Experienced painters who want a statement piece |
| Mini Dotz | Small kits | A first try, or a quick gift |
| Dotzies | Kids' line: activity kits, bracelets, starter kits, zipper pouches | Ages 6 and up |
| Freestyle | Loose Dotz, fabric, light pads, tools | Designing your own piece |
| Dotz Decor, cards, coasters, ornaments | Small finished-object kits | Gifts and holiday crafts |
| Licensed | Disney, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Peanuts, NBA, NHL and more | Fans and gifts |
Kids' kits deserve a separate look; our best diamond art kits for kids sorts gem stickers, big-gem kits and mini canvases by age.
What the canvas kit range looks like
We counted the filter totals on the Canvas Kits collection on October 13, 2026. Two things stand out: almost two-thirds are intermediate, and more kits are partial drill than full drill.
What that means in practice:
- Beginners have few true beginner kits. Only 25 are tagged Starter or Beginner. A small Intermediate kit is a fine first project; just expect more colors.
- Partial drill is the default. The printed background is part of the design, so the piece looks finished with fewer drills and less time. If you want full coverage, use the Full Drill filter before falling for a picture.
- Round is the default shape. Round drills are easier to place and don't need perfect alignment, which suits a relaxed pace. Square fans have about 54 kits to pick from. Our square vs round guide explains the trade-off.

Build quality: what buyers documented
The most useful hands-on account we found is June Gilbank's comparison at PlanetJune, where she painted a Diamond Dotz kit and an unbranded Amazon kit side by side. Her findings for the Dotz kit:
- The canvas shipped rolled in a protective box with no creases; the cheap one came folded and creased.
- The adhesive held across the whole canvas. The cheap kit had a bald patch where the glue stuck to the cover film.
- The tools were a step up: a foam grip on the pen, a spout on the tray, and wax in a jar.
- The finished piece matched the box. The cheap kit's listing photo showed a bigger, more detailed picture than what came out.
- On the minus side, she found slightly more flawed drills in the Dotz kit than in the cheap one, though neither caused a problem.
An older comparison by Cindy deRosier (April 2019) adds two details: Dotz drills are round with 13 facets and need no particular orientation, and the canvas is a strong woven fabric with the adhesive pre-applied under plastic. She also flagged the quirk in the next section.
Diamond Dotz color codes aren't DMC numbers
Most diamond painting brands label drill bags with DMC numbers (310 for black, for example), so leftovers from one kit match another. Diamond Dotz numbers each kit's colors in sequence starting at A01, according to deRosier's comparison, so A01 in one kit isn't A01 in the next. That's why "diamond dotz to DMC conversion chart" is a common search. Two practical rules follow:
- When a color runs short, use the code on that kit's legend for the Missing Dotz form, never a DMC number.
- Before adding Dotz leftovers to a mixed stash, match them by eye against our DMC color chart and label them with the DMC number you settle on.
Dotz policies at a glance
From the Diamond Dotz FAQ and Missing Dotz page, read October 13, 2026:
| Policy | Diamond Dotz (US store) |
|---|---|
| Shipping cost | $9.95 flat under $75; free over $75 |
| Timing | Processed in 1 to 3 business days, delivered within 7 business days of shipping |
| Ships to | US and Canada from the US site; not FPO or Puerto Rico |
| Returns | 30 days from the order date for a full refund, pre-approved first; prepaid label for wrong or faulty items |
| Bought at a store | Returns go back to that retailer |
| Missing Dotz | Free replacements, even for retail purchases; form with kit number and color codes; sent in 3 to 7 business days |
| Sealing | "No sealant is necessary," per the FAQ; optional |
The retailer row is the one people miss. A kit bought at Walmart gets Dotz replacement drills, but a refund has to go through Walmart.
Review signals
There isn't much independent review data for the brand. Its Trustpilot profile had just 5 reviews and a 3.8 TrustScore on October 13, 2026, and the profile is unclaimed, so it says little. The two negative reviews there mention a blurry canvas and chipped or fused drills; the positive ones praise fast, no-questions drill replacements. Walmart listings show high averages on very small samples (for example, 5.0 from 7 ratings on one kit), plus one kit at 4.2 stars from 48 ratings where 11% were one-star. Treat any single kit's score as thin evidence.
What Diamond Dotz sells on Amazon
Here's the surprise: Diamond Dotz kits are hard to find on Amazon. Our searches for the brand mostly turned up generic "diamond dots" kits. What does sell there are Dotz accessories, which work with any brand's kit:
Diamond Dotz Dotz Stick
The best-selling Dotz product on Amazon (about 1,000 bought last month, 4.7 stars from 1,214 ratings). It's a clear gel for re-gluing loose drills or bald patches and for coating finished pieces. The listing names Vista Partners Inc. as manufacturer. Our diamond painting glue guide covers when to use it and when a sealer is the better pick.
- Typeclear water-based gel glue
- Size4 fl oz (118 ml)
- Cure time1.5 hours (listing)
- Usesdiamond painting, puzzles
Why it stands out
- Dries clear
- Fixes small dead spots
- Large rating base
Think twice if
- The listing's spec table oddly includes "Toxic" among its features, so treat it as an adult supply
Diamond Dotz Roller Brayer
A rubber roller for pressing drills down once a section is done, which is the last step in the brand's own how-to (step 10: "Roll over the finished design to secure all diamonds firmly"). It holds 4.8 stars from 200 ratings.
- Rollerrubber brayer
- Handleergonomic
- Sizeabout 5 x 5 in packaged
Why it stands out
- Rubber won't scratch drills
- Also works for vinyl and paper crafts
Think twice if
- A rolling pin does the same job for free
Diamond Dotz Pony Dreams kit
One of the few actual Dotz kits listed on Amazon, and a good example of the brand's partial-drill style at a small size. It has only four ratings (4.1 stars), so there's little to go on beyond the brand itself. For a wider choice of designs, the brand's own site is the better place to shop; that link isn't an affiliate link: diamonddotz.com.
- Canvas11 x 11 in
- Drillsround
- Coveragepartial drill
- Includescolor chart, tray, stylus, wax caddy
Why it stands out
- Small, quick project
- Brand tools included
Think twice if
- Very few ratings
- Partial drill, so not a full-sparkle piece
The brand also lists the Dotzlite Everyday light pad (4.2 stars from 91 ratings) and an adhesive fabric roll (19 x 39 inches) for freestyle designs. The Dotzlite's rating trails the better light pads in our light pad guide.
Diamond Dotz vs the alternatives
| If you want | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A store you can walk into | Diamond Dotz | Sold at Walmart; replacement drills still come from Dotz |
| A shorter project with a painted look | Diamond Dotz partial drill | 257 partial-drill kits on its site when we checked |
| Full sparkle, artist designs, specialty drills | Diamond Art Club | More full-drill and square options, plus specialty drills |
| The cheapest way to try the hobby | A budget Amazon kit | For example the CHWGLFGG landscape kit, 13.7 x 13.7 in, full round drill, 4.7 stars from 1,926 ratings |
| A pre-framed kit or card kits | Crystal Art | Canvas comes mounted on a wooden frame |
Should you buy Diamond Dotz?
Yes, if you like round drills, a relaxed partial-drill project, or the convenience of buying in a store with a brand that replaces missing drills without arguing about where you bought it. Check the Full Drill filter if you want edge-to-edge sparkle, and keep the kit's legend, because its codes won't match DMC. If you're shopping by brand rather than by design, our best diamond painting brands roundup puts Dotz next to the others.
