Which Van Gogh paintings work in drills
Drills are little dots of flat color. Paintings built from bold shapes and strong color translate well; paintings built from soft blending turn to mush unless the canvas is big. Van Gogh happens to be ideal: thick outlines, short directional strokes and saturated color.

On Amazon it holds 4.8 stars from 219 ratings. Diamond Dotz also makes Olive Orchard at 16.5 x 20.5 inches if you want a second, less common Van Gogh.

The best-selling Van Gogh kit in our search, about 200 a month, at a size that fits a standard 30x40 cm diamond art frame without trimming. The 1,184 ratings appear across NIHO-JIUMA's other designs too. One quibble: the listing dates The Starry Night to June 1890. Van Gogh painted it in June 1889, from his window at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Remy, and it now hangs at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Other famous paintings
Other masters are harder to do well in drills. Monet's water lilies and bridges are soft, layered color with almost no outlines, and in drills that needs a large canvas and preferably square drills to read as anything more than speckle. Klimt's gold work could look spectacular, but our searches didn't turn up Klimt kits worth recommending. If you want flowers in a painterly style, our flower kits and landscape kits have more choice. When we checked on October 13, 2026, Michaels sold a Make Market "Starry Night with Frame" kit (4.8 stars from 62 reviews on its site), and Hobby Lobby lists a Van Gogh Starry Night intermediate kit. Stock varies by store, so check in store first; our where to buy guide has more.
Hanging a masterpiece
A finished Starry Night deserves a proper frame. Measure the image area, not the stated canvas size (OWAY's 20 x 16 canvas has a 16.7 x 12.8 inch image), and seal it first if it'll hang near a kitchen.
