Diamond painting coasters: 10 kits compared, and how to make them hold up under a glass

Coaster kits are the fastest diamond painting project there is, and the most handled. Here are ten sets with real sales behind them, what's in each box, and how to finish them so the drills stay put.

How we pick · Updated · We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links.

The Billbotk mandala coaster kit is the one we'd buy first: eight 4-inch coasters with cork pads and a holder, and 2,382 ratings at 4.7 stars. If you want the set with the most buyers this month, it's the Vcekract cat coasters, at about 900 sold. Whatever you pick, plan to seal them before the first glass goes on. Coasters take more handling than any other diamond painting, and an unsealed edge drill is the first thing to go.

How we picked these coaster kits

We pulled Amazon's page 1 for "diamond painting coasters" on October 3, 2026. It held 52 relevant coaster kits, about 7,900 "bought in past month" between them, with 31 kits above 100 a month. Coasters are a mature format compared with suncatchers or pearl kits, so several sets have one to three thousand ratings, and we leaned on those.

Every kit here then had its listing checked for the four things that decide whether a coaster set is usable: how many pieces, whether a holder comes in the box, what's on the bottom, and what the coaster itself is made of. That's the comparison table further down. No coaster listing we found claims the finished piece is waterproof, so we haven't either.

This is a "How we pick" guide. We compared listings and weighed sales against owner ratings; we didn't make every set. How we research.

Acrylic, wood or vinyl: what the base changes

A clear acrylic coaster blank, a wooden disc and a cork pad side by side
Most kits pair an acrylic or wood top with a cork pad you stick on last.
BaseKits on this pageWhat it's like
AcrylicVcekract, UPINS, Billbotk, ijbnhd, croshom, mrpwnleLight and thin. Several sellers describe it as "thickened" acrylic. Needs the cork pad to grip the table.
Woodhkejoi cocktail, Hoxxu Christmas, Zythron coffee dogHeavier and sits flatter. Hoxxu and Zythron add cork backs.
VinylYSUNETER HalloweenListed as vinyl with cork backs and a black metal holder.

For use under drinks we'd pick wood or acrylic with a cork back; for a decorative set that lives in its holder, any of them works. Hoxxu's Christmas set lists a wooden base and calls its coasters heat and moisture resistant. That's the seller's claim, and it's the only one on the page that makes it.

The 10 best diamond painting coaster kits

All ten are around 4 inches across, so a single coaster is a short sitting. That's why we haven't put hours on each card; the drill counts are too small for our time calculator to say anything useful.

How to make diamond painting coasters that last

"How to finish diamond painting coasters" is one of the most common follow-up searches for this format, and the paper inserts in most kits stop at "stick the cork on." Here's the order that keeps them usable:

  1. Work one coaster at a time. Peel its film, pour only its colors into the tray and finish it before opening the next.
  2. Fill right to the edge. Coaster edges get the most wear, and a missing edge drill leaves a gap for the next one to lift.
  3. Press each finished coaster under a sheet of release paper or with a roller.
  4. Seal the top and especially the rim, let it cure fully, and add a second thin coat. Our coaster sealing guide covers coats and cure times, using only what each product's label says.
  5. Stick the cork pad on last, after the sealer has cured, so it doesn't glue the coaster to your table.

Cork goes on last. If you seal after the cork is on, the sealer can glue the coaster to your work surface.

Day-to-day: wipe them with a damp cloth, never soak them, keep them out of the dishwasher, and dry a sweating glass's ring off promptly. The cork backs on several of these sets are sold as protecting the table from heat. None of the listings says the drilled surface itself is made for very hot mugs, so we'd keep those for the plain coasters.

Which set to buy

For a first set, or a gift for someone who's never done diamond painting, take the Billbotk mandala coasters. For a themed gift, the UPINS ocean set has the longest track record. Coasters also make good stocking fillers alongside keychains and bookmarks; our stocking stuffers guide has more small projects. If a coaster set is too big a project, diamond art magnets and keychains use the same method in a smaller size, and the beginner kits page covers first canvases.

Kit details come from each seller's Amazon listing; sales and ratings come from Amazon search results. Both were checked October 3, 2026. Prices change often, so the buttons show the current price on Amazon. How we research · Affiliate disclosure

Questions people ask

Can you actually use diamond painting coasters?
Yes, for dry glasses and everyday mugs, as long as you seal them and treat them gently. Wipe them rather than wash them and keep them out of the dishwasher. None of the sealer listings we checked claims to make them waterproof, so think of them as decorative coasters that can take a drink, not bar mats.
How do you make diamond painting coasters?
Peel the film off one coaster, pour the matching colors into the tray and place drills on their symbols with the pen and clay. Press the finished coaster flat, seal it, let the sealer cure, then stick the cork pad on the back. Most kits include eight coasters, a holder and the cork pads.
How long does it take to make a diamond painting coaster?
About an evening for a set, or less than an hour per coaster. They're roughly 4 inches across, so each one holds only a small fraction of the drills on a standard canvas. One seller says first-timers can finish eight in a few hours.
Do you need to seal diamond art coasters?
Yes, if you'll use them. Coasters get picked up, slid and wiped far more than wall art, and the edge drills pop first. Brush-on sealer is the usual choice; our coaster sealing guide covers coats and cure times.
Are diamond painting coasters acrylic or wood?
Both are common. Of the ten kits here, six use acrylic, three use wood and one lists vinyl. Most add a cork pad to the bottom. Wood bases feel heavier on a table; acrylic ones are lighter and slightly cheaper.
Are diamond painting coasters good for beginners?
They're one of the best first projects. Each coaster is small, so you learn the pen, the tray and the film without committing weeks to a canvas, and a finished set makes a useful gift. Pick a design with fewer colors if you want the easiest start.
