We searched Amazon for horse diamond painting kits on October 13, 2026 and ranked them by "bought in the past month", then by ratings. Horse kits are a small niche: one kit sold about 700 last month, two sold 100 to 300, and most of the rest sold under 100. So we weighted ratings heavily and looked for a spread of styles. Sizes and contents come from each seller's listing.

Why dark horses need a bigger canvas
A drill is about 2.8 mm across, so every kit size has a fixed number of "pixels". A black or dark bay coat is mostly near-identical shades of black and brown, and the muscle shading that makes a horse look like a horse lives in those small differences. Give it too few drills and it reads as a silhouette. Greys and whites have the opposite issue: on round-drill kits the printed canvas shows through the gaps, so the coat looks speckled up close. Square drills close those gaps (see square vs round).

Painting your own horse
If you own the horse, a custom photo kit beats any ready-made design. Shoot in daylight from the side or at head height, ears forward, with the horse filling the frame. Crop away the fence and the field. Size up to 40x50 cm for a dark or dappled coat, and choose square drills if you want the markings crisp.
